Liability Claim Solutions
Slip & Falls
Slip & Fall claims are an ever-growing concern in the retail industry. Slips can occur due to personal negligence, types of shoes being worn, weather hazards, and occasional spills; all of which are out of the retailer's control. However, the slips that occur due to oily and/or wet floors, or low degree of traction in flooring can be prevented by a flooring change. Falls can also occur with uneven flooring surfaces, loose tiles or mats, and carpets that are wrinkling or curling around the edges. Many of our products have slip resistant features or are designed specifically to reduce slip & falls.
Case Study: A New England Supermarket chain with over 300 locations. This grocery store chain installed our Cathedral TacFast tiles in their front entrance. Once they installed the carpeting in the entrance they experienced over 50% fewer customer slip & fall claims. The reduction contributed to a 10% reduction in general liability insurance rates. They attributed it to the carpet tiles absorbing tracked dirt and water, and no longer using throw rugs. Because of the total elimination of slip & falls within these stores, our product is now in their specification.

Sub-Floor Challenges
Sub-floor challenges are another liability issue retailers are faced with where the concrete slab (sub-floor) is uneven. This creates unequal walking surfaces, thereby increasing the risk for trips and falls. To reduce the risk of trips and to balance the flooring surface, consider our lay flat options and luxury vinyl tile options.
Case Study: National Hair Salon with 900 locations: Their traditional ceramic tile was cracking over a short period of time, and would easily be permanently stained with hair dye. Our free-floating laminate wood floor is now installed in locations with this issue.
Suggested Solutions:
Employee Fatigue
If an employee is stressed or in pain, it can really hurt their overall productivity, which in turn affects your bottom line. Employees can also be permanently injured, which can lead to liability claims. By providing proper use of ergonomic flooring and floor mats it is shown that a 40% reduction in workers pain and stress can be reached. Also if your employees are comfortable it will affect their overall disposition, which can result in higher retail sales.
